Cllrs Chapman & Gibbons met with DMBC officers on Monday at Castle Hills Park to consider options for significant works in order to improve the area and protect this fantastic local area of multiple heritage value.
We have the old castle mound (Motte & Bailey) –https://historicengland.org.uk/…/the-list/list-entry/1013650 and the bandstand plus the cenotaph and commemoration of VC Sapper Hackett monument. In addition to the beautiful surroundings.
Castle Hills Park has been neglected by DMBC for many years and Mexborough First Councillors are currently working very closely with Mexborough Heritage Society, DMBC, Mexborough Academy, British Legion, Ferry Boat Lane & Church St Residents Forum and other partners on an exciting project to improve this local area (and of national importance) and protect our heritage. Further
updates will follow in due course.
We are also working closely with DMBC officers & community partners to improve some of our local parks and play areas using Section106 monies (community improvement funds set aside following new housing developments in Mexborough over last few years) and DMBC resources.
Schofield Park will be benefiting from new fencing and a brand new toddlers/young children play area and the play area for older children will also be improved. We anticipate that works on Schofield Park will commence within the next couple of months and will keep you posted on developments.
DMBC Green Spaces officers are currently working on quotations to improve the MUGA (multi use games area) on Manvers Park following a recent consultation and community surgery with local children and young people and residents. More info to follow.
