Residents are being urged to join in a second major clean up operation to remove litter from a Dearne waterway.

The Canal & River Trust are teaming up with Mexborough residents to clear the towpath at the side of the South Yorkshire Navigation Canal.

They will be concentrating on the area, which runs through Mexborough.

Volunteers are urged to meet in Station Road, Mexborough, on Saturday February 28 at 10am, and follows a previous clear up in November last year.

Lucy Dockray, volunteer leader for Canal & River Trust, said; “The canal is really popular with walkers so the more people that can come along and help keep it looking neat and tidy the better.

“These events are a great way of keeping active in the great outdoors and making a real difference to the local area so I’d encourage people to give it a try.”

Volunteers are encouraged to wear outdoor clothing and sturdy footwear as the ground is likely to be wet and muddy.
