Mexborough First were out litter-picking the banking opposite Mexborough Police station adjacent to Lloyd’s Chemist & The New Surgery.

Altogether 11bags of litter/rubbish was collected and safely removed for collection by DMBC.

Cllr Gibbons did report this to the DMBC Street Scene team in Jan 2017 as the site was riddled with litter.

DMBC confirmed that this is not DMBC land but have failed as yet to contact the responsible land-owners and potentially DMBC enforcement team to ensure that the land is cleansed regularly and a litter bin installed in that area.

Cllr Gibbons had reported the issue (amongst many others) to Mayor Ros in Feb 2015 for action but sadly cleaning in principal towns such as Mexborough does not appear to be mayoral priority.

Some of the crisp packets etc picked up by the team today had 2014/2015 dates on them which show that the litter has been there for some time.

Mexborough First could have spent the afternoon bothering residents on their doorstep canvassing for the town’s votes (like Labour have been doing again this weekend) but we feel that we earn the respect and votes of Mexborough’s people and electorate by cleaning up our town and making it a nicer place to live, work and visit.
