We are delighted to announce our ‘Clean up for the Queen’ which will take place in Mexborough on Fri 4th March to mark the Queen’s 90th upcoming birthday.

The event runs nationally from Fri 4th – Sun 6th March and we have chosen Friday as our main day. However, we have equipment e.g. bags, litter-pickers, refreshments etc available to any volunteers/groups who wish to carry out any clean-up activities over that weekend.

We meet at Mexborough Library on Fri 4th March at 9.30am for a brief health & safety session (to cover off things like wearing gloves, being aware of sharps/needles, lone working etc) and to organise groups to tackle identified ‘hot-spot’ areas across the town. We will also kit volunteers up with gloves, bags, litter-pickers etc.

Following our meeting earlier this week with Gail Taylor, Community Lead at Mexborough Academy, it is a great pleasure to confirm the school’s participation/support in this community initiative. As agreed, the school will have 25-30 pupils with suitable supervision and they will focus on areas around the school e.g. Bridleway, Barbers Path etc.

In terms of ‘hot-spot’ areas, we have identified a number to focus on around Wath Road area, Leach Lane, Adwick Road (near allotments), Sarah Street etc.

Please feel free to share any hot-spot areas you are aware of and we can arrange respective teams to proactively target them on the day.

Thanks to St Leger Homes who have offered the use of a community skip on the day. This has to be located near SLH properties so we are looking at placing this in the Addison Road/Windhill area.

Please can everyone circulate this information to friends/colleagues and encourage support/attendance for this community campaign.

Refreshments e.g. water/soft drinks, biscuits, snacks, fruit etc will be provided via Food AWARE and Tesco Wath-upon-Dearne in the Community thanks to Community Champion, Suzanne Nettleton

Looking forward to seeing everyone on the day and let’s all pull together and help ‘clean-up’ our town!
